Mallorca Fiestas
JANUARY
January 5 : The Three Kings celebrations begin. The main fiesta
is in Palma, with many other towns and resorts having their own. Local
children leave there shoes outside the window filled with food for the
kings. The following morning they wake up to find the food has gone and
in its place is a present.
January 16 : Feast of Saint Honoratx, Algaida
January 16-17 : Taking place in various towns across
the island, the Fiesta of Sant Antoni celebrates the patron saint of farm
animals. It's a fun and colourful event which sees participants dress
up in elaborate animal costumes and parade through the town. A fire is
lit in the evening, usually in the town square, which is used to ward
off evil spirits. There is usually plenty of food and drink for sale and
participants sing traditional songs honouring the saint and perform dances
around the fire. Pollensa celebrates 'Pi de Sant Antoni' where an enormous
fir tree is taken through the town to the main square.
January 19 : The fiestas of 'Revetia de Sant Sebastia'
are celebrated mainly in Palma and Costitx where festivities take place
around large bonfires.
January 20 : The fiestas of 'Saint Sebastia' are celebrated
throughout the island including Pollensa.
FEBRUARY
February 5 : Feast of Santa Agueda, Sencelles
February 7-13 : Carnival fiestas are celebrated throughout
the island during February. In Pollensa and Puerto Pollensa the carnival
fiestas take place between 7th and 13th February with street parades and
fancy dress parties.
February 11 : Feast of la Mare of Deu of Lourdes, Soller
February 27 : Feast of Son Franciniana Cirer, Sencelles
MARCH
March 1 : Balearics Day - Mallorca Public Holiday
APRIL
Easter Week : Known as 'Semana Santa'. Pollensa celebrates Easter
Friday with its typical fiesta named 'Davallament'.
April 23 : The feast of Sant Jordi, Bunyola and Ses Salines
April 25 : The feast of Sant Marc, Sineu
MAY
May 1 : Labour Day and Romeria of Biniamar, Selva
May 8 : The feast of the apparition of Sant Miquel in
Sant Llorenc des Cardassar (Son Carrio)
Ssecond Sunday in May : The fiestas of 'Festes de Moros
i Cristians', 'Ses Valentes Dones' are celebrated mainly in Soller to
celebrate the victory in 1561 over the Turkish pirates.
May 24 : The feast of Sant Domenec in Manacor

- Romeria at the Santuari of the Consolation in Santanyi

JUNE
June 13 : The fiestas of 'Sant Antoni of Padua' are celebrated
in Arta with the participation of the traditional 'cavallets'. The fiesta
of Corpus Christi, 'Ball de les Aguiles' is also celebrated in Pollensa.
June 24 : The fiestas of 'Sant Joan' are celebrated in
Muro with the traditional Revetia, bulls, theatre performances and more.
In Sant Joan the fiestas af 'Festa del sol que balle' is also celebrated
with processions, typical dances and more.
June 29 : The patron fiestas of 'Sant Pere' are celebrated
in Palma, Puerto Alcudia and Andratx with seaside processions.
June 30 : The fiesta of 'Romeria de Sant Marcal' is celebrated
in Marratxi with the exhibition and market of 'siurells' and other typical
ceramic pots and ornaments.
JULY
July 2 : The fiesta of 'Romeria a la Virgen de la Victoria' is
a typical pilgrimage celebrated in Alcudia.
July (15) 16 : The fiestas of 'Verge del Carme' begins
with a night time mass followed by a procession where the locals carry
a statue of the virgin, the patron of fishermen to the port where the
statue is taken on board a highly decorated boat and taken out to sea.
A following of local fishing boats and tourist yachts, all festooned with
banners and decorations, follow it out to sea, making a colourful and
traditional scene.
July 25 : The fiestas of 'Sant Jaume' are celebrated
mainly in Alcudia, Calvia, binissalem, Muro, Santanyi and Portocolom with
the typical 'colcada' where horses are ridden around the town.
Last Sunday of July : Popular fiestas are celebrated
in Fornells.
July 28 : The fiestas of 'Santa Catalina Thomas' are
celebrated mainly in Valldermossa with the typical 'Carro de la Beata'
being shown around the streets followed by other floats.
AUGUST
August 2 : The fiesta of 'Ntra Sra dels Angels' simulating the
battle of the Moors and Christians' is based in Pollensa.
August 10 : The patron fiestas of 'Sant Bartomeu' with
the typical 'Cossiers' are celebrated in Algaida and Montuiri.
August 24 : The patron fiestas of 'Sant Bartomeu' with
the typical horse races is celebrated in Arta & Capdepera.
August 28 : The fiesta of 'Sant Agusti' is celebrated
in Felanitx with medieval dancing of the typical 'Cavallets'.
August 29 : Patron fiestas are celebrated in Sant Joan.
SEPTEMBER
September 3 : The fiesta of 'Processo de la Beata' is celebrated
in Santa Margalida.
September 21 : The fiesta of 'Sant Mateu' is celebrated
in Bunyola.
Last Sunday of September : the day of 'Festa des Vermada',
which means harvest, is a celebration local to Binissalem. After the harvesting
of the grapes a rocket is fired and the young villagers follow a drummer
and piper to a field where a massive grape fight begins!
OCTOBER
First Sunday of October, the fiesta of 'Torrada d'es
Botifarro' or Fiesta of the Black Pudding is held in Sant Joan. where
Butifarrones, slices of pork and sobrassada are roasted on BBQ pits. Traditional
dancing and special exhibitions are held.
Third Sunday of October : Typical fiestas are celebrated
in Palma dedicated to Santa Catalina Tomas 'La Beatera'. Procession with
floats where many towns from across the island participate.
NOVEMBER
Third Thursday of November : The Dijous Bo at Inca (literally
translated as Good Thursday) is one of the most famous fairs celebrated
in Mallorca during the year and the biggest of the autumn season. A must
go for those visiting Mallorca (Majorca) during November.
November 30 : The patron fiesta of 'Sant Andreu' is celebrated
in Santanyi.
DECEMBER
December 24/25 : Over more recent years families have started
to celebrate Christmas including the traditional Santa Claus.
December 31 : New Years Eve celebrations plus in Palma
'l'Estandard', to honour the Christian conquest of Palma in 1229.
